The Search for Certainty

Let everything happen to you
Beauty and terror
Just keep going
No feeling is final

Rainer Maria Rilke

Dear Quiet Companion,

You seek endlessly to confirm your existence! Why do you do this!

Just one small insight to confirm you are alright. That you are where you are meant to be.

There is no end! You look and look.

Where is the faith! Oh little faith!

You lack so much! Why such lack.

You do not need anything to confirm your being. Is the fact you exist not enough?

The soul within, the heart you hold, the beat of it, is that not the most magical thing?

How could you want more!

Foolish!

To ache for small happenings, a small glimmer of confirmation. You are the confirmation!

You are life!

You are all this world entails!

It has only ever been inside of you. Yet, you keep looking outside. Hoping for that one thing outside of you to fill the hole. Not knowing the only thing you needed was with you all along.

Buried. Suffocated by the external.

Do you not see? You lose your essence in the world. It was never outside of you!

The noise of another muffled the knowing of you.

You let these words and opinions seep into your existence.

You let them taint your world. You did it! No one else!

For what you consume will consume you. It always does.

Is it not obvious! You live out the tales inside your head! You bring empty images onto an innocent bystander! For what did they do! It was you!

You seek certainty in your own delusion. Confirming an illusion! Is that a way to live?

It is not!

Embrace the uncertainty! You do not know best.

Dance with the things that are given, let go of the things that are taken.

There is a plan. And you are not to know it. For that will only crumble the beauty of it.

It is no miracle if you know what is to happen.

There is no awe in the known. It is in the quiet, uncertain days, that the most beautiful things arise.

Sit in the waiting. But sit in faith. There is something greater than you could be certain of.

That may be the only thing I am certain of.
